My wife and I recently visited Pioneer Park while in Fairbanks with friends on a cruise tour. The park was very nice and well kept. There are numerous nice little shops and a lot of interesting things to do and see.
History. Pioneer Park was opened in 1967 as Alaska 67 Centennial Exposition to celebrate the centennial of the Alaska Purchase. After being given first to the state and then to the city, Mayor Red Boucher renamed the site Alaskaland. It was then changed to its present name in 2001 out of concern that the park could be mistaken for being primarily a theme park.
Pioneer Park opened in 1967 as part of the Alaska ‘67 Centennial Exposition, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Alaska’s purchase from Russia. The park featured a zoo and rides in those early days, when it was known as Alaska 67 and then Alaskaland. The name was changed to Pioneer Park in 2001, to reflect its focus on history.
The Alaska Landmine has obtained a letter sent by the Alaska Young Democrats to Alaska Democratic Party leadership regarding U.S. Senate candidate Al Gross' campaign manager.
Etymology. The name "Alaska" (Russian: Аляска, tr.
